Hayat-e-Javaid

Hayat-i- Javed is a biography of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan ( 1817-1898), one of the greatest illuminaries of the nineteenth century India. Divided in two parts, the first deals with the life of Sir Sayyid and other with his work. Wirtten by Hali, a friend and associate of Sir Sayyid, Hayat-i-Javed presents a most balanced view of the man as a leader of Indian Muslim and as a Muslim religious thinker.

The book is indispensable in understanding the personality of one who is so far the greatest Muslim reformar of Modern India. It also helps us to understand the social milieu in the later half of the nineteenth century north India, an important period of Indian history by all accounts. Dr. Qadiri and David Matthews have rendered the first part of the book into English. The translaiton is remarkable for its faithfulness to the original text.
